NaBloWriMo – Post 1

NaBloWriMo – Post 1

I’ve been rather lax in trying to keep up with this blog, so in the interest of trying to jump start it again, I’m going to attempt a National Novel Writing Month-inspired challenge. I will, with absolute certainty, make a post every single day until the first of December. I missed Nov. 1st, so I need to get going.

The most difficult thing about writing is trying to find something to write *about*, so I’m hoping that I’ll be able to find some thoughts or events in my personal life which are archive-worthy.

The best presents are ones you get for yourself

Back in early September, I was poking around the Green Day fanclub site (Idiot Nation) and noticed that they were in the middle of a merch giveaway, where members of Idiot Nation could enter to win a t-shirt and another random Green Day related item. I didn’t expect to win, but I dutifully sent in the relevant info…

and promptly forgot that I did.

Cut to yesterday when I received a package in the mail, which included an American Idiot thermal long-sleeve and a Green Day sticker.

The sticker is apparently overstock from a Japanese promo for American Idiot. I wish I remembered more hiragana and kanji from my college Japanese classes so I could translate this properly.

At first I was puzzled as to why I received the package until I remembered entering the giveaway. So I high-tailed it over to the Idiot Nation website:

Where I found out that I’d won the prize for the week of Sept. 25th.

I know a lot of people joke about receiving deliveries from Amazon and saying that they’re presents to themselves, but this was certainly a delightful surprise (after I’d hemmed and hawed about buying a new Green Day shirt for myself for ages). So I believe that this is the universe trying to save me money or encouraging me to spend my hard-earned cash somewhere else. But I do have a nice Green Day long-sleeve now, which will be very handy because the temps are starting to drop here in Northern CA. I can’t wait to wear my shirt!
